Blast Tyrant - Revolution is Imminent
This is Warrington’s riff merchants Blast Tyrant's first professional release. The EP contains three tracks recorded at GN Studios Huddersfield which has caught the live sound of Blast Tyrant brilliantly. A highly professional sounding release.
The five piece was formed in 2009 with various line up changes over the years, which includes 6 former members, three of which were vocalists. Now settled, with three of the band members brothers, Kev, Phil and Mike Tingle, the band is completed with Al Blackmore on bass and the latest member, Thai Boxing Louis Chapstick as vocalist. The group is influenced by Metallica, Orange Goblin, Kvelertak and the like. They are causing quite a stir on the local metal scene with a headline appearance at the Warrington Music Festival to a packed crowd earlier this Summer. Mosh pit heaven was the comment.
Their name is taken from the Clutch record Blast Tyrant but in no way are these guys Clutch sounding rip offs, even if they are massive Clutch fans. Their music is riff heaven metal in the style of South USA metal bands with some great riffs Down would be proud of.
Jesus Raped Me, kicks off with an awesome riff which launches the track on it’s high tempo way. Then Louis’s vocals kick in with a Southern Rock roar. Great lead breaks and the tight rhythm section bring the song together. When finished you are left gasping for air and you want more.
Killing Time in Kreuzberg and Degenerate Swine, have a slightly different groove. Still high tempo with great NOLA riffs but the songs have a punky edge to them but they keep the metal vibe. They remind me of the Dianno years of Iron Maiden and other NWOBHM bands of the era but they still sound modern to the ears. Great energy again which helps all the tracks flow together.
All in all a great debut EP which shows great promise for the band. As Kev Tingle says “we’re never going to be millionaires making underground music but it’s a dream job” If they make music like this for a living and keep improving they will be a force in the metal world for years to come. Catch them live at a venue near you soon, you wouldn’t be disappointed.
