Noises In The City: News, New Music and Gigs
The Hyena Kill Announce Pledge Music Campaign
“You may have noticed that we have been busy recently making our debut album recently,” say the band. “We have been slaving away writing, recording, mixing and its sounding ace. Everything is finished and now we need your help to get it mastered and put onto CDs complete with original artwork. To do this we have set up a PledgeMusic campaign. There are loads of cool gifts for everyone who donates and a percentage will also go to charity.
“We could not have got this far without you and the end goal is to deliver you guys a killer album.
"Thanks again for the amazing support.”
This is a band who deserve your money.
Under Release New EP
Under, a band who mix elements of doom, noise and progressive rock to make one almighty and dark racket have now released their debut EP, First Attempt. The Stockport band, much loved ‘round here, are streaming the whole three track EP over on their bandcamp page. Check it out and support some wicked new music.
Soma Dark Unveil New Single
And speaking of music, Soma Dark have a new single to show the world. Sounding like all the good elements of Disturbed (bear with me) and mixes it with a slower, groovier Nevermore. It packs plenty of aggression and the breakdown is filthy, with a dash of Alice In Chains in the harmonies that follow.
Friday 9th October –
First off, Melvins play Gorilla. A gig that needs no introduction, if you’re of the weird doom/sludge/music for mentalists persuasion then you will, I strongly presume, already have your ticket. You can ever use that ticket for free entry into Rebellion’s Grunge Night (with tribute bands of Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains making up the bill) just down the road. So keep the party going and destroy that liver of yours!
Alternatively, Skarlett Riot play Satan’s Hollow tonight and Ragnarock host their first rock and metal at the uber cool venue of Pub Zoo. These are the guys that put on the awesome Freshers gig at Retro Bar the other week, so if it’s anywhere near as good it’s worth getting your arse to.
So if you want beer, riffs and a boogie tonight, you have plenty of options.
Saturday 10th October –
In Bolton, progressive metal band Ghost Iris play the Alma Inn with Consortium, Misanthropy and Searu – so if you like heavy then that’s well worth going to. But if you want a club night full of classic rock and heavy metal classics alongside pole dancers (oh yes!) then HFM at Rebellion is where you should be. And it’s free entry!
It's also Danny from Prognosis' birthday, so have a drink on him, wherever you are.
Sunday 11th October –
“Finding yourself having nothing to do on Sundays? Well look no further,” say the organisers of this acoustic evening (starts 6pm) at Bierkeller in the Printworks. “Come down for a night of Live Music at the perfect German themed bar. This week we have some great local talent for your enjoyment. It’s freee entry and £2 a pint!”
The line-up includes Four Authors, Vukovar, Voyeurs, idealists and totalitarians, Gareth Howaston and Marc Gallagher.
