Stormbringer - Blood And Rust - CD Review
Stormbringer – Blood And Rust
Northampton’s Stormbringer are a band with its roots firmly embedded in the early 80’s NWOBHM movement and they continue to make good progress with the release of their second album, Blood And Rust.
The title track is a short, slower doomy instrumental sets the tone but is quickly followed by the powerful No Redemption, both pieces clearly hinting at the guitar sound of Iron Maiden.
Rise has more than a nod towards Diamond Head (as does much of the album), I was half expecting them to burst into Am I Evil at several points. Bad Blood is the first single from the album with it’s catchy shouty chorus shows they have commercial sensibilities and with the accompanying video, a good sense of humour.
Unto Me and Voice Of Demons have a similar feel but the later is a real epic, a showcase for their respective talents. However, I am not sure about the inclusion of a cover of Talking Heads Psychokiller, it probably works really well as a great way to end a gig but as a recorded piece? The jury is out on this one.
Overall the band have delivered a cracking second album full of simple headbangingly catchy riffs. They have a great classic rock sound along with clear vocals and you can tell they enjoyed every second making this album.
