Betraeus Announced For Progathon II
Betraeus are something of a paradox. The sounds that drift through that chasmic musical universe are hugely contrasting – from overcast atmospherics and bright, supple melodies to chopping, angular riffs and ravished growls courtesy of Chris Sykes – yet their centre of gravity is beyond enthralling. Sewing together such contradictions with a deft craftsmanship that extends their years, the result is a live show which has been stunning the Manchester Metal Community with a growing rapidity of late, to have their brand of artful progressive death, which exhumes majestic melodies and abrasive aggression in equal measure, at the second of the Progathon was a no brainer.
Drawing from the broad ranging spectrums of bands such as Opeth with the technical attack of Decapitated, Sylosis and Mastodon, we are dealing with a top quality act here. A quality, we might add, that is shown through their previous appearances at Bloodstock, Download and Euroblast festivals.
“We are really looking forward to playing Progathon II,” enthuses Sykes. “With our style of writing it's not often we fit all day metal rosters so comfortably so it's cool to be playing with like minded musicians and in front of an audience with an interest in Prog.
“To be honest I think this will be the first event we'll have played which is aimed mainly at Progressive music, which is why we've always been interested. Also we've always been big supporters of the Manchester metal scene. Each time we go out on tour to play somewhere new we make sure everyone knows where we're from and that they should go and check out events like this!
“Personally, I’m always interested to see what other prog acts Manchester and the rest of the UK has to offer too,” adds fellow guitarist Eddie Johnson. “To be playing one of the top spots a good feeling too and it gives us a chance to showcase our new songs ahead of our upcoming demo and album as well as stuff from our EP The Drought.”
…”PS: Sir Bill Wellington will be making an appearance.”
Progathon II takes place at Rebellion Manchester, 21st August.
