The River Versus & Ascent return for Progathon II
One of the standout performers of the first Progathon, The River Versus play their brand of poppy progressive rock with a glorious daftness. They had everyone dancing and smiling, the definition of fun – that Star Wars medley alone beyond cracking – and so they were first on our lips when discussing which bands to bring back for the second edition of the event. Alongside the already announced Mothertongue – who are fantastic fun in their own right – they help contrast the seriousness of Betraeus’ & Poly-Math’s heavy prog.
Ascent are the other band we were quick to invite back for round two. Opening the Sunday back in March, they delivered a set deserving of a much higher spot on the bill and so this time we’ll be putting that right. One of the most technically gifted Manchester bands, drawing from the likes of Dream Theater, Rush and Tool, they seem to improve every time they step foot on stage. If recent times are anything to go by, then the journey their set will take us on in August will be an enthrallingly dramatic one full of twists and turns. We cannot wait.
