Conan Interview: Tour Reflections & Mancunian Handjobs
Conan recently flattened Rebellion with Sweden's Monolord. With another Manchester date, this time with Conjurer, lined up for November, guitarist/vocalist Jon Davis reflects on that last show and looks ahead to November.
Interview: Phil Weller
So you’ve recently played Manchester’s Rebellion with Monolord. What are your memories/reflections of that show and of playing Manchester in general over the years?
Over the years Manchester has felt very much like home. We have played the Star and Garter a handful of times, it was the place we played our first ‘out of town’ show back in 2010, we played the Kraak Art Gallery and more recently at Rebellion. It’s a very good city for us.
Google maps used to show an image of a guy getting a handjob off a prostitute around the corner from the Star & Garter.
What was it like going on the road with Monolord, did having such a brilliant live act support you every night help bring the best out of your performances?
Touring with Monolord was lots of fun. We are friends with those guys and our co-headline tour was awesome. I’m not sure they inspired us to greater things (I don’t think it works like that) but we definitely enjoyed sharing the stage with them each night and I consider each of them as my friend.
You’ve recently announced another run of dates for later on in the year, including another trip to Manchester. What can people expect from that tour?
This new tour is supporting our new album (Existential Void Guardian) so we are going to play some new material from it.
We played two songs on this recent tour and they went down great actually. I loved seeing how the songs seemed to fit so well into our live set. We are really proud of this new album and I think the tracks will prove popular.
Conan return to Manchester Tuesday 27th November with support from Conjurer, a young band fast on the rise thanks to their unrelenting and brilliant dark music. It promises to be a loud evening.
