Somewhere in the rolling hills of Glossop you’ll find Daydream Hotel. The experimental Pop-Rock five-piece has cleverly crafted an ambient three-track EP, which is due to be unveiled on 2nd November. The record grapples with the idea that you cannot map out a route for falling in love, as no amount of logic can determine your heart’s desire, or the path your love life will ultimately follow.

Opener Screwed (A Life Without You) embraces the bouncy yet melancholic leanings of some of the UK’s genre-defining Indie heavyweights. Frankie Cheetham’s spellbinding straight-talking vocals mingle with sonically vibrant instrumentals and creative arrangements, which provide a captivating, abstract backdrop to a moody, poppy track.

Breath-taking beauty Memories Reef then sweeps you up in a creeping, haunting, Celtic-inspired tide of emotion, which is effectively conveyed with delicate restraint. Waves of thoughts, feelings, sorrows and regrets wash over you as the tempo rises, falls, increases and diminishes. Just over halfway through there’s a momentary pause before a distorted guitar lick breathes new life into the song, heralding a defining shift in intensity.

Daydream Hotel’s salient influences come to the fore most notably in Great Big Time, which sees a swirling maelstrom of The Cure-esque guitars take centre stage. The jangly, reflective closer also evokes shades of Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Marr, but there are echoes of other influences, such as The Smiths, Edwyn Collins/Orange Juice and Nick Cave, referenced throughout the record. Love By Design (Built Ugly) is a must-have for fans of any of the above, brought bang up to date for a new generation to enjoy.

Join Daydream Hotel in celebrating the launch of their eagerly awaited debut EP at The Globe Glossop on 3rd November. Support will be provided by Preston’s own Building Giants.
