Preview: Dweezil Zappa coming to The Lowry
It is almost 24 years since Frank Zappa was taken from us yet his music lives on.
And since 2006, his son, Dweezil Zappa, has put his own music on hold in order to perform the music of his father around the world using virtuoso musicians in order to create the ultimate experience of listening to Frank’s music... LIVE! This group of musicians have toured extensively around the world, the only official group to do so thereby keeping his father’s music alive.
Like his father, Dweezil is a highly accomplished guitarist; it helps that he had lessons from the likes of Eddie Van Halen and Steve Vai as well as spending plenty of time watching his father play.
The first Mothers Of Invention album, ‘Freak Out’, was released just over 51 years ago and since then there have been (by our reckoning) 109 official Zappa releases. From such an extensive back catalogue Dweezil and his amazing band have hand-picked their favourite tracks for the latest tour intriguingly titled: 50 Years of Frank: Dweezil Zappa Plays Whatever the F@%k He Wants — the Cease and Desist Tour.
You can witness Dweezil and his band bringing his father’s musical legacy to life in Manchester (and around the UK), fifty years since The Mothers Of Invention first toured this country. They play the Bridgewater Hall on Monday 9th October.
We are genuinely very excited by this upcoming show, which will undoubtedly be a veritable cornucopia of rock, pop, jazz, orchestral and dissonant music. If it is anything like the previous show we saw in Manchester then be prepared to be blown away.
