HighView EP Review 'Aftermind'

The new offering by the Canberra-based outfit comprises five empowering tracks, opening with the melodically hook-heavy Simple Life, filled with uplifting choruses and riff-laden grooves.

The record follows an ebb and flow of powerhouse hard rock guitars, alongside more poppy synth-infused rhythms. Rounding off the EP is the rocking final cut Animal, an energetic track with a heavy beat and strong vocals that slips into a gentle instrumental to fade out.

In a marked contrast to the band’s debut EP 'Take Your Time' - a contemplation of the people and places that had a lasting impact on vocalist Matt Faulkner - ‘Aftermind’ is darker both lyrically and in its tone. It is an expression of the band members’ emotional struggle trying to maintain a healthy work/life balance in modern day society, which is something that will resonate with most of us.

‘Aftermind’ has all the hallmarks of a well-crafted, accessible rock record, incorporating a plethora of styles reflecting the band’s eclectic influences, from heavy rock acts such as Breaking Benjamin, to more progressive rock groups like Dead Letter Circus.
