Preview - Mishka Shubaly at the Castle Hotel
Mishka Shubaly isn't just a musician, he is also a best-selling author and a great story-teller. He is currently on a UK tour entitled Let Me Back In which marks the release of his brand new live album Never Touring Again which was recorded in Memphis last year. Interestingly Shubaly calls his work a 'collection of depressing, alcoholic, nihilistic songs'.
There is also the ten year anniverary reissue edition of his first album How To Make A Bad Situation Worse which comes out on 16th June 2017, this reissue has been remastered at Abbey Road Studios, and features Don't Cut Yr Hair which is used as the intro music to the Doug Stanhope Podcast and Stanhope refers to him as 'my personal hero.' The song Only One Drinking Tonight is featured in the movie The Unbookables.
Shubaly himself is a fully paid-up Anglophile and is looking forward to the tour. "I feel an unusual kinship with the English. Like you, I find Donald Trump terrifying and America worth mocking, even on a good day. I enjoy the fine foods available at your Tesco Express restaurants. And I feel so well-loved there, it's almost like the English have an intimate familiarity with drinking problems, depression, and a pervasive sense of personal failure. Plus, you guys call salad ‘rocket’! That's fucking awesome!'
Johnny Depp is also a fan describing him as 'forever a favourite'.
Classic Rock Blues observed, “His brand of self-loathing bar-floor blues is about truths that are never pure, rarely simple, and often darkly amusing”.
Blues In Britain hailed his “Brutally frank dispatches from the gutter”.
He plays The Caste Hotel on May 17th, be sure to be there, it is going to be an interesting experience!
