Preview: Church Of The Cosmic Skull

Taking place at the Ruby Lounge is the first Manchester Show by Nottingham based Church of the Cosmic Skull who describe themselves as a “psychedelic religious movement backed by a seven-piece super-group playing Prog/Psych/'70s Rock/Pop”.  Having checked out their album we would definitely say this is very proggy and will be well worth checking out.  Their album Is Satan Real is essential listening and is highly recommended.

However, if that wasn’t enough for our delectation NOIZ have assembled a holy righteous assembly of bands to worship.  From Stockport are a band who need no introduction to followers of Manchester Rocks, UNDER!  The last time we saw them we were highly impressed with their sludgey doom anthems crossed with some tight avant-garde bass playing to make an intriguing sound.  The band have recently signed a record deal with new local label APF Records with their debut album Slick due for release in late-spring or early-summer.  We can’t wait to hear it and well done to them!

Another band we are so looking forward to seeing live are Vodun.  Their debut album, Possession, released last year possessed us like nothing else!  Singer Chantel Brown’s voice is huge and along with the soulful yet psychedelic classic rock the band produce they are highly likely to exorcise the spirits at this show (but as long as my SC is safe then that is fine by me).

The rest of the bill is a who’s who of underground talent too:  Boss Keloid are hugely popular and are going to go down well even though they are from Wigan – but we will overlook that fact as long as they bring pies.  Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard and Trevor’s Head complete the line-up with stoner rock, sludge, doom and LOTS of riffs.

Still need convincing that this is a show not to miss?  NOIZ have thoughtfully put together a video playlist with one track from each band for you to check out:

The doors open at 5pm with the riffage starting 10 minutes later – don’t be late!

We will see you there.
