Rival Bones Launch New Single Hives
Two piece rock bands, when done right, have a raw, raucous magic about them. From The White Stripes and Royal Blood through to Manchester's very own Hyena Kill, their lack of numbers no way reflects a lack of noise. Loud, gritty and thrilling, Rival Bones are a band you can add to that list.
With a self-titled EP ready to be unleashed, the band play Aatma Friday 7th April as part of a UK tour in support of the record. A varied, utilitarian band, their songs are as smooth as sandpaper and bursting with energy, adrenaline and anger.
The duo sit astride several musical worlds: classic, swaggering rock, heavy metal, blues rock, grunge and modern garage/stoner rock. For fans of Foo Fighters, Black Stone Cherry, Audioslave and a ballsier Royal Blood, Rival Bones show that less is more.
Hives then, is no different. Here, the Liverpool sound like Royal Blood and QOTSA in a fist fight, James Whitehouse's vocals raspy, rough and impassioned. Former Boss Keloid sticksman Chris Thomason meanwhile, delivers a no nonsense, meaty pummelling underneath Whitehouse's garage rock abrasiveness.
The band have been on our radar for some time and this song show just exactly what they are capable of.
